With fewer than two weeks remaining, the Yuba College baseball team is still mathematically in contention for a playoff spot. With a 11-22 record overall and a 8-11 league record Yuba will finish the season on a tough road trip competing against Sierra College and Delta College. “We have to win out the rest of the season to get in the top three of our league. The good thing is that everybody is losing right now which helps us if we can win,” said first baseman Neil Logue. The 49ers lost to Diablo Valley 5-4 in a heartbreaker giving up three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Yuba pitching walked ten batters and stranded eleven players on base. Neil Logue had a pair of hits and Curtis Hudson hit a solo home run to lead the offense. Freshman Bobby Davis got himself in the line up and came out swinging in his first start going 3-for-5 with a single, double and three run home run for a win against Napa Valley College with a final score of 14-8. Davis popped a three run double in the top of the second inning to get the 49ers started. Davis would end up scoring on a base hit by Charles Madden. Steve Briggs pitched seven solid innings, allowing three runs and walking one. Yuba committed three errors on defense which were all costly in the Storm getting runs. “I was so exited to get in there and show what I can do. They gave me a shot and I capitalized on it, having a good day at the plate and playing well in the outfield,” said Davis.
