“Exploring Minerva” was a recent, month long art exhibition held by the Yuba-Sutter Regional Arts Council (YSRAC). The show featured thirty pieces of photography and art by Yuba College student, Minerva Gama. The Artist’s Reception drew in a huge crowd and many people were very impressed with this up and coming local artist. Gama has been included in six prior art shows, before her solo debut at the YSRAC, and has received scholarships for her work on more than one occasion. She sold two pieces of art from the show and is still receiving offers on other pieces.
When asked what her favorite thing about art is, she explained, “It’s more of a psychological thing, so I don’t bottle stuff up inside. I don’t think of my photos as still lifes or portraits- to me it’s all just art- and it relieves stress and keeps me going.”
Gama dabbles in many forms of art such as drawing, painting, and sculpting, but is most passionate about photography and plans on majoring in it. So far she has taken eight photography classes in two years, with our world-renowned photography teacher, Rick Murai.
Although she wants to get more involved with digital editing and incorporate more multi-media into her skills, she hopes to do more gallery work in the future. If you are interested in viewing or purchasing Gama’s work, contact her at s_minerva_gg@gmail.com.

Thank you! I really enjoyed doing this article. I’ve taken classes and workshops alongside Minerva; I have a lot of respect for her work because I know personally that photography is much harder than it looks, and not all photographers can develop their talent the way she did. It was definitely interesting to see her in front of the camera!

Thank you so much Heather for your hard work and support!
