The stage is now set for the Yuba College 49ers football team in their run to the conference championship. The conditions were ideal for football in beautiful Shasta as the 49ers recorded an impressive victory against the Knights of Shasta College. The final score of 34-22 was not indicative of the dominating performance by Yuba College.
Victory was assured by keeping the ball in the hands of tailback Juan Johnson, who totalled 228 yards on 47 carries with 3 touchdowns. Juan is looking forward to this week’s home game, expecting a big performance. Returning home this coming weekend, realizing the importance of this game, the team looks fresh and confident.
Defensively, Yuba played perhaps their best game of the season, holding the Knights to just 10 points until giving up two late touchdowns after victory was assured. Max Flores, the leader of Yuba’s defense, had two sacks, helping the 49ers improve to (2-1) in conference play.
John Leal, the Yuba College kicker, made two field goals including a 44 yard effort as he continued his stellar play. John holds the Yuba College record for most field goals in a season at 10. He May have a shot at breaking the record for longest field goal of 50 yards by season’s end. He is accurate and can kick for distance.
Please come out and support your Yuba College 49ers this Saturday night 11-3-2012, against Los Medanos Junior College.
