On March 30, the Yuba women went head to head against Cosumnes River College, playing two losing games. In the first game, the women lost 6-1 and then lost a close 3-2 in the second game.
Stephanie Cardenas scored the only run in the first game after reaching out on a single, being sacrificed to second and stealing third base. In the game, Mirija Hedrick hit a triple and Ashley Vierra batted a double.
On April 5, the 49ers played against San Joaquin, losing a heartbreaking 11-2 and 11-0. Hedrick suffered the loss in the first game, but had hit two of the team’s three hits. Mikiala Freitas swung the lone hit in the first game. In game two, Amber Landrum allowed 16 hits.
On the 7th of April, Yuba lost 4-3 to American River, scoring all three of their runs in the fourth. Freitas was 1-for-3 and Hedrick was 1-for-4 with a double.
Then on Monday, April 11, the 49ers lost once again to American River 1-0. Landrum pitched perfect for the first five innings, allowing only five hits and fanning five, while walking zero. Frietas had the lone Yuba hit.
On April 14, the Yuba women defeated Los Medanos 11-3 in the first game and 2-1 in the second game of their Bay Valley Conference meet. Game one was Yuba’s first victory since beating Los Medanor on March 24.
Landrum gave up two hits and one unearned run in the second inning and struck out six and walked two. According to her coach, Stephanie Reynolds, “Even when she gets behind, she battles back with good control.”
Meghan Radcliffe, the Los Medanos pitcher fanned five and walked three, but it wasn’t enough. Only four of the 11 runs were earned. The 49ers were tied 1-1 in the second, but in the bottom of the fourth, Landrum scored on Megan Hauck’s ground out to second. By the end of the inning, the women had a 8-3 lead and in the fifth, they brought it to 11-3.
Landrum then hit a hard liner to third for a single and moved to second. Sulu Penerosa hit a ground ball that went to second and advanced Landrum to third. Hauck then hit a RBI ground out.
In the second game, Yuba was tied 1-1 in the second, but then Vierra reached on an error, moved to second after the Los Medanos team walked Landrum and passed on to third.
She finally made it home on Penerosa’s ground out.
Reynolds noted, “The difference in the game today is that we were able to hit the ball well.”
Hedrick was the winning pitcher in game two, allowed three unearned runs on three hits, fanned two and walked three and only hit one batter.
At bat, Hedrick hit an RBI-double and knocked in a run off a triple in the fourth. Freitas was 3-for-4 with an RBI and Penerosa went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Hauck and Kim Misulich each scored runs and Jacque Mendes hit an RBI with a single.
“We stepped up and came together today,” pitcher Landrum commented.
