During last spring’s election of the Associated Students of Yuba College, four officers were elected to the student government council. Monica Kurowski was elected president; Zachary Dionne, vice president; Amanda Clickenbeard and Yaneli Garcia as senators. However, Clickenbeard did not accept her appointment, leaving three officers on ASYC for this academic year.
According to the September 8-12 student bulletin, Yaneli Garcia is no longer a senator, though elected as such by the student body last academic year. She is now named Communications Director. No power is given to ASYC, under its own constitution, to move an officer into another position without going through a special election.
Such an election was also required for Alex Tessmer, who is currently identified as Secretary in the September 8-12 student bulletin.
According to the ASYC Constitution, “All vacancies after election period shall be filled by a majority of all votes cast by Council members at a special election.” In other words, the three incumbents may elect another student to fill a vacancy, such as secretary, during a special election. However, the ASYC Constitution stipulates, “Notice of such election shall be posted on the campus bulletin boards one week before the election is held.” Yuba College students must be notified on all campus bulletin boards before a vacancy is filled.
Remaining vacancies on the Council include: Business Director, Activities Director, and two Senator positions. Applications are due in the Campus Life office by October 12.
