The Associated Students of Yuba College swore in five new officers on Thursday, October 30. The new ASYC appointments are: Business Director, Amy Waldorff, Assistant Business Director, Cynthia Lopez, Activities Director, Gavina Avila, Assistant Activities Director, Andria Black and Senators, Karl Jarmolowicz and Nefer Park.
Later at the meeting the members discussed the upcoming Yuba College Band Showcase. The ASYC had originally planned to make the event a “battle of the bands,” but they would only allow band promoter, Curtis Collier, one hour during lunch. This would not be enough time to put on a battle of the bands, according to Collier. The show is still in the preliminary stages of development, scheduled for sometime next semester. The bands must have at least one member who is a Yuba College student.
The ASYC also briefly discussed moving the campus suggestion box. They finished up the October 30, meeting by discussing when ASYC members would be able to work in the ASYC office.
The next meeting was held on Thursday, November 6, when they discussed doing some kind of service, such as making a turkey dinner for the students living in the dorms who wouldn’t be able to go home for the holidays.
The ASYC briefly discussed the college’s concurrent enrollment policies, citing that schools in Orange County lost their concurrent enrollment program due to double counting.
The ASYC got down to business when they discussed getting matching t-shirts for its members to wear at events around campus.
Among other business the ASYC reported that they still needed one more person to volunteer for the KVIE pledge. They also mentioned that in the works is a Rapid Transit college route.
The ASYC meetings are held every Thursday at noon in the cafeteria.
