ASYC meets Pasquale

November 9, 2012 Tim Hayes Leave a Comment

During a recent ASYC meeting prior to the November 6th elections, Michael Pasquale put forth reasons he is electable and what he would work on changing and improving at our college. Pasquale stressed the importance of listening to students, and making sure their voice is heard in future board meetings, even if the representative on the board for the students cannot cast a vote.

He said, “Great ideas are great ideas, no matter where they come from.” He assured students present that he would be in the mix of things and that you “can’t manage something from behind a desk.” He went on to compare the Linda campus to an aircraft carrier, because if your home base isn’t in order, managing effectively will be difficult if not impossible. When asked about the police academy and other such programs, Mr. Pasquale highlighted the need for nurses and medical staff at our local hospitals, which increasingly are having to bring in outside help for a higher cost. Is the police academy, he wondered aloud, really needed as much in our community? Students expressed concern over a variety of issues, and whether Mr. Pasquale had an immediate answer or not, he showed a willingness to admit the need to study and review “the books” before committing to a particular stance.

Much of what was discussed and asked at the ASYC meeting was just speculation and if anything showed he is open to ideas and willing to listen to actual students and their needs. One particular issue brought up was improving the facilities and classrooms at the Linda campus, especially the bathrooms. Michael Pasquale worked as a risk analysis expert and for budget management in previous careers, which in his opinion give him a fresh and authoratative view on issues affecting Yuba College.
