Every Thursday, the Associated Students of Yuba College meet to plan upcoming events and evaluate past events. They organize fundraisers, discuss money issues and often donate money to clubs on campus.
Recently the ASYC donated $200 to Yuba College Alumni who were killed in a car accident. Three generations of the Negrete family were helped with their funeral expenses.
This year the council is working to make changes at Yuba College. The ASYC supports Measure J, a $190 million bond measure that will help renovate and build college facilities within the Yuba Community College District. Members of the ASYC are also working to expand Yuba College services so students are able to get bachelors degrees through an extension campus of CSU Chico on the Yuba College site. Yuba College students would be able to get more credits without having to travel to a university.
Because prices in the Yuba College cafeteria have gone up, the ASYC presented 555 signatures to request dropping the prices in the cafeteria. Last year when students bought products, taxes were included. But this year the prices have gone up and the taxes are not included. The food service provided in the cafeteria is not managed or owned by Yuba College, so there is no way for the college to directly control food service prices.
This year’s ASYC will be going to San Diego for a leadership conference to obtain leadership skills.
