The Associated Students of Yuba College opened its November 17 meeting with two members taking an oath of office. Nicki Ercolini took her oath as the new ASYC secretary, and Erika Maas, who was appointed to a senator position during a closed session on November 10, took an oath of office as well.
At the November 17 meeting, the ASYC discussed, among other topics, ongoing plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Thanksgiving plans include distributing meals to three families previously selected by Activities Director Gavina Avila.
Christmas plans include a Sees Candies “on-the-spot” candy bar sale, at a future date undecided as of November 30. Students will have to approach ASYC members in person to purchase the candy. Elizabeth Bowman, ASYC advisor, reported that faculty and staff had already received pre-order forms in their mailboxes.
The ASYC is also planning to help out Linda Elementary School with its Christmas Project, though specific details were not introduced during the November 17 meeting.Devin Black (Business Director), Erika Maas (Senator) and Elizabeth Bowman (ASYC Advisor) are planning to drive to Sacramento on December 4 to help with a KVIE Channel 6 Pledge Drive, by answering phones and taking pledges. Also the ASYC plans to distribute free “stress balls” during finals to help students relax.
On November 10, Erika Maas reported the discussions at two District Council meetings. District Council is a group of faculty, staff and administrators who jointly govern many of the affairs within the Yuba Community College District. One student representative is appointed to the District Council.
According to Maas, District Council members discussed district email, talking about what happens when people mass email to all@yccd.edu as opposed to all-marysville@yccd.edu. The difference is that the “all” address includes not only the Marysville campus, but Woodland and Clear Lake as well. It was said at the DC meeting that people are sick of others who send Marysville campus-only related emails to everyone else.
The ASYC is postponing a trip to the Woodland campus, which was scheduled to allow the ASYC members to meet with the Woodland Community College Student
Association, until the Spring 2006 because of the upcoming Dead Weeks, during which many students will be preparing for finals.During the last few meetings the ASYC has discussed edits and name changes to its constitution, to be adopted at a future meeting.
