Yuba College Male Athlete of the Month
Local Marysville product, sophomore Mychael Henry, netted 26 points in the first round of the Bay Valley Conference basketball playoffs against Hartnell College on February 25. His performance that Friday night was a confidence booster for him, showing him that he and the team were on the right track. Prior to losing to West Valley 83-70, Henry felt that the team would be able to win. He projected that he would score at least 20 points, and he scored 21.Overall, Henry feels that his performance at the beginning of the season was fairly average, but he has been able to improve and has been good ever since. The team started with a number one rank in the preseason, and they had hoped to make it to the Elite Eight, but were denied with the loss to West Valley.
Yuba College Female Athlete of the Month
Amber Landrum, a pitcher for the softball team has had a great pitching season so far. On February 26, Yuba lost both games to Siskiyous College. Despite the loss, Landrum pitched a one run game. Then at a game against Feather River College on March 1, she pitched another one run game, in which Yuba won 1-0. She was also 4-for-6 at the plate. Landrum was also the Appeal-Democrat’s athlete of the week for the week of February 20 – 26.
