Brian Nelson, a long distance 49er runner placed extremely well at the Ed Adams Invitational at Hartnell College on April 2, which hosted about 20 teams. Running a time of 1:59.34, he placed second in the 800 meter race and third in the 1500 meter race in a quick time of 4:06.08.
At the Fresno City Invitational,which hosted 24 teams from all over Northern California, Nelson improved his 800 time by three seconds since his last race. His run captured first at an amazing time of 1:56.40. He has also been the Appeal-Democrat’s Athlete of the Week for the week of April 3.
Rachel Merriam, another long distance runner for the Yuba team, has been busy leading the 49er women. Taking fifth in the 400 meter at the Ed Adams Invitational on April 2, she ran a good time of 1:01.48.
She also was a part of the women’s 4-by-100 team (Sarah States, Samara Jackson and Gavina Avila) that took third in 56.73 seconds.
At the Fresno Invitational, she was fifth in the 400 meter (1:03.56) and in the 800 meter (2:32.60). She was the Appeal-Democrat’s Athlete of the Week for the week of April 10.
