Wednesday, February 9, the Yuba College men’s basketball team won their last home game of the season. They played Solano Community College and this win guaranteed that we will play the Bay Valley Conference (BVC) championship.
Despite the importance of this game and the pressure that it brings, our team won with ease. They had a steadily growing lead during the first half that started with two field goals from Anto Olah, who led the team with 17 points. By the time Solano scored their first point, the Yuba College 49ers already had 7. By halftime, Yuba was leading 46 to 23.
After the first few minutes of the second half, scoring was almost point for point. Toward the end, Mike Arnaoutis tipped in a shot gone astray and the next time Yuba had the ball, Jhonte Simpson was dunking it, reaping an enthusiastic applause from the crowd.
Tyler Fry, Julian Welch, and Mike McChristian each made two 3 pointers during the game. Yuba had ten 3 pointers compared with Solano’s four. The 49ers were fouling often in the second half, but Solano made only 12 of the 20 free throws they attempted.
The game ended with Yuba at 99 and Solano at 67.
Yuba will host round one of the BVC Championship this Wednesday, February 16, at 7pm.
