The Yuba College men’s soccer team is only two victories away from claiming the Bay Valley Conference title. With the spitfire that Whitney Shimatsu and Tim Danna are showing, as well with how well the rest of team is playing, head coach Jason Spain believes that the men could win the next two games. However, the coach is going to wait and see where the chips fall. On November 5, the Yuba men will face off against Feather River College and on the 9th, they will go head to head with American River College.
The 49ers tied Friday, October 29th with a score of 1-1 against Consumnes River College. Louis Alejo scored the first goal with an assist from Shimatsu, leading the men 1-0. It appeared as if the men were going to win, but in the final minute of the game, Consumnes blasted a ball through the net, tying the game. According to Spain, Nick Nelson, Tim Danna and Phillip Plant all played a great defensive game. For the week of Oct. 31 – Nov. 6, Shimatsu was declared Yuba College’s Athlete of the Week and was featured in the Appeal-Democrat for his outstanding performance in the past few previous games.
