As of late, I hear many people complaining about political ranting, “I can’t wait until the election is over so I don’t have to see these political posts.” These people are the problem, when was the last time they wrote their Congressman, state legislator or attended a City Council meeting?
The election is not the end but the beginning; it is our CIVIC DUTY to keep the elected people in check. So they post another picture of their kid but forget that their 2-year-old is already $45,000 in debt to the government, equating him/her to nothing more than an indentured servant.
When the election is over the people will go back to sleep but the bureaucrats won’t. The do gooder bureaucracy works 24/7, 365 days to force their will on us and make us pay for it. The EPA, NDAA, DOE, NSA, CIA, DOD, and NLRB all work daily to interject themselves into our lives. How much time do you spend trying to keep them out?
Alexis de Tocqueville said, “People get the government they deserve.”
So the American people have from abstained their CIVIC DUTY for years and look at what it has gotten us. From city, county, state and federal, we are regulated into submission. 7-year-old girls need a city permit to have a lemonade stand, schools can’t have bake sales because they don’t meet the nutritional standards of the federal government, a family’s property is seized by the EPA because they have a puddle of water that was declared a wetland. The machine we call our government is on a course that is out of control at all levels. The do-gooders have hijacked the system, telling us what’s best for us, and putting it on our credit cards.
For years, the baby boomers wanted their cake and they got it, but abstained from their CIVIC DUTY when their Social Security money was borrowed on by the federal government. Now they want to complain that, “We paid into to it, you owe us,” and they don’t care how you pay for it. This type of thinking holds true for union pension plans, pork barrel government spending and all the waste associated with anything government. The only resource the government has is you.
Now I don’t care what your issues are, but if you have one or ten, it is still your CIVIC DUTY to fight for it. But remember this – it is no others’ responsibility but your own to pay for your pet projects and causes. When government acts as a charity, it is nothing more than force being disguised as good deeds. See, it is about power. If it wasn’t, then all charitable donations would be 100% tax deductible up to any amount. But then the do-gooder bureaucrats would lose control because the system would run out of money.
If you support a cause then put your money where your mouth is, not mine and especially not on my kids’ or grandkids’ credit card. Spending most of my adult life reading numerous points of view from Plato to Locke, Aristotle to Jefferson, I learned we as a society have forgotten to ask the bigger questions. Do we have a responsibility to the collective or are we sentient beings with individual rights?
It is your CIVIC DUTY to ask these questions, and once you figure out who you are, it is your responsibility to exercise those ideas that you support. As for me, I will leave you with this question, “What makes you think you have a right to my time, my labor or my earnings?” It is your CIVIC DUTY to figure out where you stand in this equation.
