In light of impending budget cuts to educational institutions across the state, an estimated 15,000 people mobbed Sacramento for the March in March, in an attempt to tell legislators they won’t stand for it.
The March 22nd event, organized by the Student Senate for California Community Colleges, brought educators, students, and other educational proponents together to defend their already-drained resources from further cuts.
The crowd was dotted with colorful costumes and towering puppets and effigies constructed by demonstrators. The voices of the passionate speakers were accompanied by fervent drumming and the sometimes overpowering roar of the crowd.
Whether or not the legislature took notice is yet to be seen, but with 15,000 angry people willing to travel from the farthest corners of the state, it would seem that they they have little choice.
