On Friday, May 1 the Yuba College Chamber Choir quietly made their way into the cafeteria as patrons went on, not knowing what was about to happen. The choir, whose concert took place later that night, took position near the military advertisements and sang two impromptu songs from their concert list named “Ka Hia Manu” and “Ubi Caritas.”
“I love doing this sort of thing so I thought it was a lot of fun” said Carl Hahn, a bass singer in the choir. The crowd clapped and cheered after the performance. From there, the choirwent outside for a continued performance in fr ont of Yuba College President Paul Mendoza’s office, where the same songs were sung for him personally.
The choir is always looking for more people to sing with them each semester. They meet Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 12-1 P.M. with a one-hour self-scheduled-sectional with other students. The choir is led by Dr. Aya Ueda, who is the college’s instructor for voice
“We were there to raise awareness of our concert tonight and to provide some element of spontaneity here for the students on our campus,” said alto Jessika Spencer.
