Are you a parent struggling with the responsibility of making sure your toddler is in safe hands while you attend classes? Then the Child Development Center (CDC) is here for you.
The CDC is an accredited, state funded, licensed childcare facility on campus. Enrollment eligibility is based on need and income, and many parents who enroll their children are not required to pay for the childcare services provided. Although, it can be fee-based or privately paid, depending on income.
Because of recent budget cuts, it was decided that infants under the age of 18 months can no longer be enrolled in the program. Infants run more of a liability risk, and it was thought to be more fiscally responsible to stop accepting them. The CDC is still accepting applications for toddlers older than 18 months.
The 26 staff members working for the center are responsible for feeding the children and giving them naps. Along with teaching them basic things such as reading and writing, the CDC teaches children how to make decisions for themselves; their creativity is welcomed and encouraged, according to Karen Stanis, Site Supervisor for the CDC.
Stanis also states that there are often special things offered by different campus groups for the benefit of the children. Field trips, music students coming over to play music for the children, and cookies being baked for the children over at Flavor’s Restaurant are a few examples.
The Child Development Center is located beside the campus Police Station by the East parking lot and is open from 7:30am – 5:30pm, Monday – Friday. For more information, drop by the center or contact Karen Stanis by phone or email. (530)7418749 kstanis@yccd.edu.
