Longtime Yuba College baseball and golf coach Gary Engelken died on the morning of Tuesday May 1 at his home of an apparent heart attack.Engelken had been undergoing kidney dialysis for sometime and was on a waiting list for a kidney transplant. He received a heart transplant six years ago, and the medicine he was taking to regulate the heart affected his kidneys.Engelken was inducted into the Yuba College Hall of Fame this year and was allready a member of the Northern California Old-timers Hall of Fame and the Coummunity College Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Engelken is survived by his wife, Judy, and his daughter, Mary Lynn Larrigan. A memorial service will be held Saturday, May 5 at 11am at the family home: 227 E. 25th St., Marysville. It is open to anyone who wishes to attend.A baseball scholarship is being created through the Athletic Foundation in Engelken’s name. Donations toward the scholarship would be prefered in lieu of flowers.If you wish to donate please make checks payable to the Yuba College Foundation and indicate the doantion is for the Gary Engelken Scholarship and send it to Joanna in the Athletic Department.
