“Push! Push! Push!,” were the words chanted by Yuba College’s new men’s soccer coach during Monday’s practice. The men’s soccer has a new coach this semester, Imed Dossy. Although he is new to men’s soccer, he is no stranger on campus. Last year he coached the women’s soccer team here at Yuba College, and has been coaching various clubs and divisions for a little more than seven years.
When asked why he switched from coaching women’s to men’s soccer he explained, “I’m more comfortable coaching boys. I know more about them than girls.” Yuba College is the first college coach Dossy has worked for, but not the first school. He has coached high schools like Bear River, and Nevada Union. He explained that when coaching a sport, you move up because “progression wise, that’s the next step. If you want to move forward.”
Imed Dossy is originally from Tunisia, North Africa, and moved to the United States when he was 24 years old. He used to play soccer, and was positioned as a right full back for defense. So far, he and his team seem to get along. Coach Dossy discussed the Yuba College team and said that hopefully they will progress further than last year (which was the first round of the playoffs.) He confirmed the presence of talent on the field, and had high hopes that eventually all their chemistry would “click”.
The team seems to approve of the coach and his methods. A member of the team, Justin Nolasco gave his opinion of the new coach. “He’s a good coach he knows what he’s talking about.” Nolasco added that Dossy was tough “just enough to motivate ourselves, to win to get us to play our best.”
These words were not hard to believe when watching the coach during practice. He was out there with the team, in the middle of the field, not on the sidelines. He analyzed every player from every angle, and let them know what they were doing right, and correcting their imperfections.
Coach Dossy has also made it clear that he enjoys the Yuba College campus, and find the staff even more appealing. “The campus is pretty cool. The staff is amazing, I really do like the staff; everybody’s nice. I like the atmosphere, I like what they’re about. It makes it easier and fun.”
The coach also made it clear that winning games was not the only goal for the students on the team.
“Education, to make it through school,” began Dossy, “that should be the ultimate goal.”
