Cross Country 49ers Take Second in Bay Valley Conference

October 14, 2002 Staff Leave a Comment

On Thursday, October 3rd, Yuba College’s Cross Country team competed at the Lou Vasquez meet in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. The results? An 11th place finish, second place overall in the Bay Valley Conference.

Our 49ers were one of the sixteen teams competing. Other competitors from the Golden Valley Conference League included Sierra College, American River College, and Shasta College, with Shasta being the team’s toughest competitor. Although the team was one top five female runner and their number one male runner, they still pulled together and did rather well.

I asked the team’s new coach, Rick Browning, what he thought about the team’s performance so far, and he had said, “Everyone has improved greatly.” Apparently, the team gets better with every race, and in Coach Browning’s words, “That’s almost unheard of.” None of the team members has had a bad race so far this season, and that is impressive in it.

Coach Browning also commented on the team’s camaraderie. He mentioned that everyone works very well together, that they have really pulled together to help each other through the season. He referred to them as “a true team.”

So far, it sounds like the team is doing very well under their new coach. Best of luck, 49ers, and keep up the good work.

Here is a list of the team’s upcoming meet dates. Come on out and support the team!
