Cross Country Coach Is Looking Forward To A Season Of Competition

September 24, 2004 Staff Leave a Comment

Yuba College Cross Country coach, Rick Browning is looking forward to a season of competition. Last season was quite a struggle for Yuba runners. Coach Browning, who has been coaching at Yuba College for seven years now, says the problem was there were two many runners there for the wrong reasons. According to Browning, they were not competitive. Browning’s main goal for this season is to do “a lot better than last season.”

The majority of the runners are freshmen, so Browning is excited about the new talent and the “quality people” he has to work with. Both the men and women’s teams will be strong, and are dedicated to making it not only to the Nor-Cal Championships in San Mateo, but to the state championships in Fresno as well.

In only his third year as head coach, Browning has enough potential to work with this season, that Yuba College’s Cross Country program should noticeably improve.

For their first Invitational at Lassen on Friday, September 10, Coach Browning took only four runners to compete. Between the three women and one man, they ranked 5th, 7th, 15th and 7th place. According to Browning, this is pretty good considering the tough competition they were up against, such as Butte College.
