After eight successful years of heading up the Yuba College cross-country team, Coach Nick Vogt announced that he will be taking over the reins of the Sierra College cross-country team in the fall of 2002.Coach Vogt reinstated the Yuba College cross-country program in 1994, and during his eight years Yuba has advanced athletes to the postseason competition every year. In all but one year, Yuba has qualified athletes all the way to the state meet, and last year was no exception with Raquel Lopez and Steven Schenck representing the 49ers at state.
Throughout his career at Yuba College, Vogt qualified his entire cross-country team to the state meet twice. In 1994 the men’s squad represented Yuba at the state meet and three years later the women’s team competed for the 49ers.
Over the years Coach Vogt’s passion for running has rubbed off on the athletes that look to him for guidance as most of the runners improved their personal best nearly every meet.
Coach Vogt developed the River Front Park course in 1994, and several runners from Yuba have made the top 10 list on that course. He was also responsible for organizing many summer and winter running camps. At press time Yuba College athletic department had not named a successor for the coaching position of the cross-country team.
