When the year began, Coach Rick Browning knew he had a special team, but never knew how far they could go. He must have been real surprised when both the women’s and men’s team made it to the State Meet together for the first time in the history of the college.
At the meet, held in Fresno on November 23 the Yuba College men’s team was led by Zack Stuller once again.
Stuller finished 93rd in 22 minutes and 4 seconds. Following behind Stuller were teammates, Jake Rydman (186th), Nikolas Schweitzer (206th), Brad Thomas (211th), Walter Sampley (217th) and Juan Rocha (219th).
For the women, Marifaith Schweitzer led the pack with a 125th place finish clocking in at 21:42. Other Yuba women runners finishing were Carol Kent (147th), Dora Beltran (190th), Neidy Mendoza (193rd) and Erika Ayala (199th).
Raquel Lopez was not able to compete for the women’s team because of a sprained ankle, while Mike Rickel couldn’t go for the men’s team due to the flu.
Even with the lack of experience, Coach Rick Browning was very pleased with the way his team handled themselves.
“This has been a great season,” said Coach Browning.
With that, a great season is finished and many await next year’s team to do wonders.
