On Wednesday, November 6, 2003, Yuba College’s Professor Canto-Lugo hosted CSUS history professor Henry Chamber’s “Crossing Borders, Building Bridges” presentation “Views on Iraq and the Real Reasons We Went to War.”
Professor Chambers taught Middle -Eastern history at CSU Sacramento and has traveled to Palestine, Gaza, Israel and the Middle-Eastern region.
Chambers opened the presentation to a near-capacity crowd of 120 students in room 521. He stated that the Bush Administration does not want to allow any presentation on national television that imply anything contrary to what the administration is doing in Iraq.
“No credible person is allowed a voice,” said Chambers, “the only forum that presents truth concerning Iraq is PBS.”
Chambers focused on a new way of thinking, which flourished among Arab commentators in recent months, saying that the traditional goal of establishing a Palestinian state alongside Israel is unrealistic.
Chambers accused the Bush Administration of deceiving the people of America into compliance with the war in Iraq.
“Who’s responsible for the debacle we are going through?”, asked Chambers. “Who botched the occupation?”
In an interview Professor David Rubiales was asked if Iraq was another Vietnam.
“Not yet,” said Rubiales.
“(There are) no signs of weapons of mass destruction anywhere in Iraq, when this was the issue (used by the Bush administration) to go to war.”
