Dramatic Interpretations of Literature Was A Hit!

If you were unable to attend Yuba College Speech Team’s performance Thursday evening in the theater, you missed an outstanding showcase of our school’s talented students. The presentation was titled “Dramatic Interpretations of Literature: Reflections of Social Issues,” and offered performances by seven members of the competition Speech Team.

The evening began with an introduction by Professor Suzanne Ruckle, the team’s instructor and coach, who was followed by team members Kasandra Roberts, Jennifer Pendley, Noe Alvarado, Hannah Nielsen, Harold Whitson, Alex Mazerolle and Sheila Kirn. A variety of subjects were covered, both dramatic and humorous, with enactments of prose and poetry by each in turn.

Jennifer Pendley’s oral interpretation of literature of “Feminine Hygiene: The Multi-Million Dollar Industry,” was a hilarious send-up of feminine products and the obvious lack of a contrasting line of male products.

Alex Mazerolle’s portrayal of “Sybil” was mesmerizing, playing all the personalities in this story in an Oscar winning quality performance.

Noe Alvarado offered a combination of prose and poetry in “So You Think You Wanna Be a Gangster?” He told the story of a young man growing up in the barrio; it was one of the most powerful enactments of the evening.

This is just a sampling of the talented people from the Speech Team that performed in this showing. If you would be interested in joining the speech team, you can find it in the directory, or write to Professor Ruckle at sruckle@yccd.edu. Donations to the speech team can be made to the Yuba College Foundation: Attn: The Yuba College Speech Team.
