Elicia Stewart and local youth from R Spot, a community youth afterschool group run by Harmony Health, joined Green Futures for a lesson in cloning on the Linda Campus on Friday, April 27, 2018. To kick off the event, Green Futures President Shaun Presley asked students if they knew what cloning was. A couple of the students already had the general idea of what a clone was, and Presley showed them how to clone a Jade plant by splitting off and planting them in soil. Associated Students of Yuba College (ASYC) Secretary Michaela Christensen participated in the fun. Recently, upon request, a volunteer from Western Farm Workers Association assisted Green Futures in solving a drainage issue in the on-campus greenhouse. The poor drainage created unsafe conditions , which had limited activities for the club. The club also installed mats, *which were donated by Harmony Health, to prevent slippage in wet conditions. Both these improvements, as well as other recent donations, have enabled the club to partner with Harmony Health to offer this kind of enrichment within the community.
I hold both an AS in Social and Behavioral Sciences and an AA in English from Yuba College. I have been on the editorial board of Flumes, literary arts journal, and contribute to the publication of The Western Farm Worker. No one knows what the future holds!
