The Yuba College Track and Field is in their 2nd year under Coach Eric Fremd. Our team has shown continual progress under his direction. Fremd has brought excellent recruiting practices to this improving team of integrity.
The relaxed, yet professional demeanor of his athletes is shown by the way they practice and go about their business. The positive approach with people and their development, along with a plan for continual improvement to bring in talent, has produced dividends.
Right now, he has a good group of focused men and women who have worked hard to bring a winning program to the track for Yuba College.
Jurrell Davis is a sophomore runner, competing in the four hundred, eight hundred, and four by four hundred meter relay events. Relay events are team participation and the four and eight hundred are single competition races against the other team.
Jurrell is the consummate professional on the track and a hard working student with life goals. He is enjoying his sophomore year for “the good.”
He stays motivated by spending time with “family, friends, and professors from my classes in our school.”
A physiology major, Jerrell says, “My goals are educational. I stay on top of the grades, stay close to my professors, and keep a full complement of classes.” After completing his degree, Jurrell plans to find a job in “sports team promotion as a pulmonary, respiratory therapist for athletic training.”
Jarrade Davis, his twin brother, runs the one hundred and two hundred meter events, as well as the one hundred and two hundred meter hurdles. He also mans the four by four relay team. Both are a testament to educational success in the athletic venue.
Dom Bellamy is a freshman sprinter from Franklin High School in Elk Grove. He runs the one hundred and two hundred meter dash. “With the possibility of making it to state this year and the number one ranking overall,” Bellamy believes in his team’s chances.
He says, “We will do great. Starting at the Bay Valley Conference Finals, everybody will get a good opportunity to get some medals. So, by the time we reach the Northern California Tournament, we should be good from there.”
In the throws, shot-put, hammer and discus events, Kyle Cammon gives Yuba College a chance to win at every meet. On how he gets prepared to throw, “I get my mind right by listening to music for calming variation, then focus on a song to get pumped up, and then just throw.”
Kyle is a freshman who does plan to return to Yuba College next year.
“The way the coaches interacted with me in the recruiting stage, I was very confident in their ability to create a winning environment. They create interest for a successful program. They built this program from the ground up. I enjoy my teammates. This team is an amazing team. We are all really close and support each other. We will continue to keep that family feel and support each other and the coaches.
Ben Ieremia has returned to Yuba College Athletics in the shot-put event. He is motivated to “continue my education and strengthen my level to compete.”
His personal record is 49’ 9” on the ball and he would like to improve to 52” by the end of the season. 52’ would be a conference best.By tournament he should achieve his goal.
At the time of this writing, our women’s team won the GVC championships, Saturday, April 25.
They scored 93 points. Butte placed second with 60 points. It was the first time in 15 years that Yuba College has won a track and field conference championship.
Our men placed second with 83 points. Butte won with 117 points. Overall we had 14 first place finishes, 12 second place finishes, and ten third place finishes. Both of our teams scored over double the points from last year’s championships.
Fremd has brought a quality, winning program for track and field to Yuba College with athletes of integrity. The prospectus for the continuance of this success is great. The most impressive aspect of the program’s success is the academic achievement of the athletes along with the positive winning attitude.
