“Crossing Borders and Building Bridges” is an event series created to educate students and the community on a wide range of social and political topics. These are conducted in the form of directed-open-forums that allow in depth discussion of and education on topics such as, in the past, “Water Wars: America,” presented by Joshua and Brady Atwal, “The Tenets of Hinduism,” presented by the founder and president of the Geeta Society, Prabha Duneja, and “Race Relations 2 – Israel and Palestine,” which was recently held on September 30, 2014, and was presented by Brian Condrey, Valerie Harris, Aya Ueda, Maris Wagener, and Kevin Wildie, all members of the Yuba College Faculty.
These groundbreaking assemblies are directed by Professor Neelam Dhinsa Canto-Lugo. Professor Canto-Lugo specializes in areas such as “Intercultural communication and diversity training, public speaking coaching, community leadership development, volunteer mobilization and community service, coalition building, multicultural event planning, small-donor fundraising, networking, civil rights and social justice organizer, and education consulting,” according to her professional linkedin profile, which, along with her educational background, can be found online at http://www.linkedin.com/pub/neelam-dhinsa-canto-lugo/12/306/400
There are a couple of events coming up including “Coming Out Day” on October 9 at Yuba Campus, and a two hour discussion on “Domestic Violence” at Sutter Campus on October 16. My name is Aaron Thomas Leonard Piccirillo. I was born in Jamestown, NY, but I grew up in Homer City, PA.
