This week’s home game for Yuba College football against Los Medanos was the most exciting game of the season.
The 49ers, down 42-20 midway through the second half, came roaring back on the strength of another record breaking performance by tailback Juan Johnson who gained 439 yards. John Leal also continued his record setting pace by kicking three field goals, the last one bringing the 49ers to within 5 points in the last quarter.
After the defense rose to force a fumble by the punting team on the ensuing possession team, the Yuba offense drove the ball to the Los Medanos three yard line. On 4th down and goal to go, Quarterback Zach Hutcheson took the snap and tossed to Jeremy Williams from the 5 yard line. Breaking tackles on his way to the potential game winning score, Williams dove for the endzone. Met by two tacklers at the goalline, he launched himself into mid air and appeared to have broken the plane for the game winning touchdown.
As the referee hesitated slightly to make the call, no sound could be heard in the stadium. Unfortunately, he ruled the 49ers slot receiver to have been stopped on the one yard line. Once again, the 49ers were all heart and played valiantly in what may have been their best performance of the season. This coming Saturday night 11-10-2012, Yuba College plays their final regular season game. Please come out and treat yourself to one an evening of enjoyment with an excellent football team, the Yuba college 49ers.
