The Yuba College music department finished their last Tuesday Noon Music Lecture-Recital of the semester on May 12. Music professor Dr. Robert Mathews hosted the event which featured many of Yuba College’s talented music students.
While recitals are usually given with lectures by Dr. Mathews after each performance, due to this year’s high turnout the show ran song-to-song without lecture.
“If you’re a student here at Yuba College during finals week, this might be a good way to relax,” said Mathews.
Some of the performances included “Revenge, Timotheus Cries” from Alexander’s Feast performed by Damien Oliver with music professor Dr. Aya Ueda on piano. Johann Sebastian Bach’s “Boureé” performed by Devin Kosloff on classical guitar. A traditional spiritual entitled “Sometimes I Feel like a Motherless Child” performed by Megan Anderson with Ueda on piano, and “Awake, Sweet Love, Thou art Return’d” by John Dowland performed by Karla Hyatt with Yuko McWhorter and Mathews on classical guitars.
The recital was held in the Yuba College Theater and included a detailed set. The event was free and open to the public and drew a crowd of over a hundred, many of which were students from Linda Elementary School.
Other performances included in the show were Enrique Granados’ “La Maja Dolorosa” performed by Sharon Martin with Ueda on piano, Reynaldo Hahn’s “Si mes vers avaient des ailes” performed by Rachael Fuentes with Ueda on piano, and two performances of “They Say It’s Wonderful” from Annie Get Your Gun performed by Darra Cariker and Alexander Yamada, and Crystal Pilk and John Berard.
