The Yuba College 49ers football team has gotten off to a great start this season. Coach Ted Hoal led his team to an exciting comeback victory over College of the Siskiyous on Saturday, August 4.
“It was one of the most exciting games I’ve seen at Yuba College in a long time. I was on the edge of my seat the entire second half,” said former Yuba College student Ray Brocker.
Leading the team offensively this year is sophomore quarterback Chris Saras. He completed an impressive 18 of 32 passes and threw for two touchdowns. Abner Nakihei completed the second touchdown with no time remaining on the clock, which allowed Yuba to edge-out Siskiyous by one point.
The final score was 20-19. For his performance, Saras was honored with the Appeal Democrat’s title of Athlete of the Week.
Monterey Peninsula College proved too strong for Yuba on Saturday September 11. Our men could not get beyond Monterey’s offensive power. With a final score of 19-13, Yuba moved on with a record of 1-1.On September 18, Yuba faced Sierra College and played really well.
Two touchdowns were scored by the defense and two by the offence. Unfortunately, offensively Yuba had a few turnovers, which cost the game. The final score was 28-48. Kevin Watkins and Selesele Faaaliga have stepped up this year and are really contributing to the team. The lose to Sierra has left Yuba with a 1-2 record.
