Francisco Reveles – Yuba County Candidate

Francisco Reveles is qualified, highly respected, and has a history with this community and this college specifically. He isn’t in this race for the perks, but rather seeks to use his knowledge about the system to improve it.

A teaching and speaking professor, Reveles knows when and how things works, and went they don’t. This real world experience in the higher system puts him in a prime position to improve things should he be elected.

Francisco Reveles spoke at the candidate forum which was held for students at Yuba College on October 21, 2010.

“Men should be ugly, strong, and dignified,” Francisco Reveles said during his opening statement at the candidate forum held at Yuba College. He did an exercise where he asked all the students to close their eyes. He explained that most of the students didn’t close their eyes and it was because of trust. “Trust is important,” he said.

He also used an analogy of the college being like a candy apple red 66 mustang. The mustang is old but it is good. The college needs to support what is already there and make improvements. He argued that staff and students will be more committed to the school and each other with trust and support.

The question that he drew out of the hat asked, “How are you going to uphold the student first philosophy?” His answer, “Students first means we hear your voice.” Reveles said that he held many positions in which he worked with students such as working as a principal and a science teacher. He also said that he held focus groups with students. “Wisdom comes from listening to people.”

Reveles hopes to improve course availability, transfer rates, having more counselors available, more support for classified staff, the summer program, and making more realistic goals. Reveles knows that he alone can’t do this, but he believes in scaffolding and building a coalition with other board members. He believes he can get some of the members on the same page as him.

“Students will drive me,” he said in closing.
