One lucky winner will be chosen to win the 1969 Mustang Coupe, beautifully restored by the Auto Club, in a drawing scheduled for October 2018. Tickets will be available for a small donation of $25 at the grand reveal during Yuba College graduation ceremony, through summer and the first half of the fall semester, as well.
The Auto Club hopes to sell two thousand tickets. Don Schumacher, Auto Club’s Advisor and instructor at Yuba College, states, “I’d like to meet the goal, if not exceed it.” Their goal may be reached, as many students plan to purchase a ticket. Brandon Delong, Auto Club Representative, claims, “I’m gonna buy plenty.”
Schumacher explains the proceeds “help students with a progressive style funding,” by supporting the Automotive Department and Auto Club with extra tools and parts, provides the opportunity of future projects.
Delong also points out, “It’s nice to see people showing interest in the Auto Club for once, and what we’re working on.” When asked his reason for joining the club, he answers, “Why? I like painting and to see shiny cars.”
The Mustang may appear ready, but there is still work to be done, which is expected to be completed by May 1st. However, the body work is finished and freshly painted, a trendy Jade Green and is currently in the Automotive Department for the transmission and engine, both rebuilt by the Auto Club.
The maintenance to follow includes the electrical, new brakes and tires, glass installment, and finally upholstery design. The Mustang was originally purchased and provided by Mike Morse, Yuba College instructor, which Schumacher informs their plan is to stick as close to the car’s original build as possible and “spruced up with some chrome here and there.”
The Auto Club is not the only group of students participating, students in Auto 70 and 75 (Intro to Autobody and car structural steel, respectively) are involved in the “Infamous Project Car.” The Auto Club’s other projects such as a 1966 Corvette, Gravedigger, and Mercedes, have been put on hold, as Schumacher explains, “[we are] concentrating on the Mustang, time is constraint due to the car.”
