Woodland Community College student Ellen “Annette” Krezman was hired in early October 2006 to fill a new yearly position at WCC: Student Assistant to Student Services.
Also known as a “Student Activities Worker,” Krezman works closely with the Dean of Student Services, Stacey Cook to plan activities and events on campus.
Born and raised in Woodland, Krezman is a full-time student and mother of a four- year-old. She is pursuing a degree in Human Services and plans to transfer to CSU Sacramento.
Krezman’s goal for WCC is to have an event or activity each month and is currently creating a master calendar of events for the rest of the 2006-2007 academic year.
Krezman assisted in organizing and planning the Disability Awareness Fair, held Thursday, October 25, from 11:30 to1:30 p.m.
The first activity she created on her own took place on Halloween, a “Dress up if you dare” costume contest open for all students, faculty and staff of Woodland Community College.
This first Dress up if you Dare Contest, included “most scary,” “most funny,” and “most original” costumes. The main event occurred from noon to 1:00 on October 31, where contestants were judged and prizes were awarded. The “most scary” winner went to Business Professor David Buck, dressed as a crazed escaped convict from Alcatraz. The “most funny” winner was student Shelly Funston, dressed as a clown, and the “most creative” winner was Elizabeth Pederson, dressed as the hobbit “Meriadoc Brandybuck.”
To enliven the campus, Krezman will try to get students involved in events that they want to be involved in. Krezman stated that even though it is hard for students who are really busy with school, work and families, getting involved really makes a difference.
Students are welcome to share ideas or suggestions with Krezman. “I love ideas from students, staff and faculty,” she said. The best way to reach Krezman is through email, ekrezman@yahoo.com, because her office hours vary.
November and December will include several activities, including a “Registration Blitz” which will encourage students to register early and on time. Students who provide proof of registration will be entered into a contest for a free IPod giveaway, and there will be other prizes and activities, including gift certificates from the bookstore.
Free cookies and hot cocoa are in the plans for late November, for a celebration of happy holidays. There will also be a display of “What are you thankful for?” in the Building 100 display case. Students should also prepare for “Stress-Free Finals” because Krezman plans to help students “stay focused and avoid getting frazzled” by providing healthy snacks, information on nutrition, reducing stress and study tips for everyone’s “favorite” time of year: finals.
Spring semester seems to promise many activities as well, so far including a Welcome Week in January, Black History Month in February and Earth Day and Denim Day in April. Krezman is also working closely with the Associated Students of WCC to plan a Health and Wellness Fair, “Spring into Health” to be held April 12, 2007.
Krezman said her favorite job as the Student Assistant to Student Services is planning the events and she really looks forward to getting experience and knowledge from Cook.
