The Yuba College Child Development Center participated Friday, October 31, in a fifteen-year-old tradition of taking the children to various Yuba College offices and departments for an on-campus trick-or-treating event.
The children visited the E.O.P.&S. office, the Registration office, the on-campus police department, the special education office, the Cafeteria, the Library and ended at the Yuba College Bookstore for a special Halloween story-time.
During the story time the children were able to recover from their trek around campus by listening to Textbook Manager Kathleen Martinez read the books “Bears in the Night,” “Halloween Songs and Poems” and “The Story of Halloween.” The children were also given a “goodie bag” from the college bookstore full of Halloween favors and toys.
Marylou Crawford, Yuba College Bookstore manager said, “It’s a tradition here. They have been coming for the past three years. The kids love it and so do we.”
It was Yuba College custodian Patrick O’Bryan’s first time seeing the Child Development trick-or-treat event and helping to distribute the treats. Although O’Bryan has been working for Yuba College since 1987, he and other custodial workers had not had the opportunity to see the children in the past because of their early morning shifts. This year custodial staff for the first time are scheduled later in the day, offering them more student interaction. O’Bryan said that he hoped that he looked as cute when he was a kid and added, “It was great seeing everyone participate and have fun with the kids.”
