Yuba College now has a Student Health Clinic, providing free health care services for all registered Yuba College students. To recieve services, students must provide a current and valid proof of registration; no other information is required. The service was previously terminated in October 2005, according to Miriam Root, when they were unable to find a college nurse as a suitable replacement. This year, however, Kate Irvine, a Physician Assistant at Harmony Health Medical Clinic, is providing basic medical needs for all registered Yuba College students. Irvine said that she was very pleased that there is a medical clinic at the Yuba College campus again, and that there will be for the next flu season. The clinic is located behind the cafeteria on the first floor of Osuna Hall to the left of the entrance in the 1500 building. The Student Health Clinic offers services treating allergies, bladder infections, colds and flu, earaches, eye infections, rashes and skin infections, muscle and joint problems, as well as minor stomach problems and diarrhea. They also administer screening and wellness exams. Irvine hopes Yuba College will also be able to “work out a new contract for the next year that includes flu shots and other vaccines.” The clinic is able to prescribe medicine to students, and may refer patients to other facilities if need be. Though they offer pregnancy tests, OB/GYN services are not included. For services unavailable at the clinic, they provide information on additional free medical services available at other local clinics. Irvine stated that the Center does not provide mental health services, though she is willing to direct students to Yuba-Sutter Mental Health, their own personal physician, or the proper mental health services. Students who wish to make an appointment should call (530) 740- 1749. Walk-in appointments are also welcome. For some services that Yuba College does not offer, including OB/GYN and social worker services, students may contact the Harmony Health Medical Clinic at (530) 743-6888 or visitwww.harmonyhealthfamilyservices.com.
