Halloween is not only a time for sweets and tricks, Hollywood is now seeing a window of opportunity to feast on the time of year when people are celebrating but not lavishing gifts to one another. Instead, with the weather getting colder and the decreasing sunlight, it would seem like the perfect time of year to start reeling out those movies! This year, Hollywood has a whole lineup of movies that will either test your tolerances or make you jump for joy. With movies such as the first episode of Quinten Terrantino’s series “Kill Bill,” or the romantic almost-overdone comedy “Intolerable Cruelty,” no matter what you see, you wont walk away completely disappointed. If a scare is what you’re after, “Scary Movie 3” or the remake of the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” might be the ones for you. OK, so “Scary Movie 3” Isn’t really too much of a horror flick, but if you’ve seen the first two, you understand what a horror it is for them to have made another one. Some people have been bashing “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre saying it can’t live up to the original but I disagree; the preview had me crying home to my mother. If you don’t really want so much of a scare, but more of a thriller, “Kill Bill,” “In the Cut,” of “Runaway Jury” might be more up your alley. “Kill Bill’ is an interesting movie and if you hate when things are out of order or don’t make sense until later in the movie, this isn’t for you. I appreciated the cinematography, though. “In the Cut” seems interesting only because it’s another shot for Meg Ryan to try and break out into that thriller category since the movie where her husband was kidnapped and she fell in love with the guy who was supposed to find him… anyway, go Meg, this one looks good. At first I thought “Runaway Jury” was a documentary or possibly based on a true story, but it was neither just proving my theory of conspiracy in the courts just a little bit more. It’s about a trial, and these men in black and gray pinstripe suits want the verdict fixed, so they hire this person on the jury to swing the votes. When the person starts to sway from the intended task, the men start getting angry and that’s where the thrills come in!
If you are a Disney fan and have seen previews for “The Haunted Mansion” starring Eddie Murphy, don’t make any Halloween plans on it because it doesn’t come out until later in November for the Thanksgiving/Christmas movie crowds. Whatever you are looking for this Halloween, help fix the economy and go see a movie.
