One hour ago, during a Special Meeting, the YCCD Board of Trustees met in open and closed session to vote on the new Chancellor for the District. Upon returning from the two minute closed session, a motion was made, seconded, and unanimously approved to hire Dr. Douglas B. Houston for the soon to be open Chancellor position.
Dr. Houston will assume the duties of the office on July 1, 2011, following the last day of work for Dr. Nikki Harrington on June 30th, prior to her retirement commencing.
As mentioned in a related article, Dr. Houston comes to YCCD from Lassen Community College and is looking forward to leading YCCD to “become a leader in the state.” Dr. Houston believes that someone needs to step up to lead and that the YCCD is very well poised to provide the necessary leadership.
Dr. Houston’s contract calls for:
an initial contract period of two years with two possible extensions of one year each
a base salary of $218,000.00 for the 2011-12 academic year
annual increases of the “lesser” of: (1) the funded statutory COLA for community college apportionments, or (2) the negotiated increase to the faculty salary schedule
annual non-work days, in accordance with the “YCCD Management Handbook” (Handbook), of 22 vacation days, 14 holidays with pay, 10 management leave days, and 12 sick leave days
health and welfare benefits in accordance with the Handbook
the option to participate in the State Disability Insurance program
a monthly travel stipend of $600.00 for travel within the District and adjacent counties
an allowance for basic cell phone coverage and data service in accordance with District policy upon providing his own equipment
expense reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses incurred as part of his duties and oblications in accordance with policies of the Board.
