With only two weeks remaining in the season, the Yuba College softball team finds itself only three and a half games out of first place and a record of 7-6 in the Bay Valley Conference Silver Division. “This is when games are the most stressing but are also the most exiting games of the year,” said outfielder Trisha Almond. Yuba won a key game against Consumnes River College last week in a crucial game that could play a big part in the tournament seedings in two weeks when the Bay Valley Conference tournament takes place at Sierra College. Trailing Consumnes River in the standings by two games, the Yuba College softball team handed Consumnes River another loss and came one game closer to third place. Pitcher Marisa Vodden threw the whole game, giving up four hits and only two earned runs in a 6-4 victory that had horrible weather with winds up to 40 miles per hour. Taryn Shrekengost led the offense with a single and a triple with two RBIs.
With the win Yuba brought their league record to 7-6 and are only three and half games out of first place.
“We need to keep up the good games that we have been playing and take it to the next level as we head toward the end of the season with tournaments coming up,” said team captain and third baseman Taryn Shrekengost.
During spring break Yuba catcher Liz Mabray was named the Yuba athlete of the week after hitting for the cycle against Laney College in a blow-out win, she also batted .500 for the week to lead the 49ers.
