Maybe it’s the 11 bars, two adult XXX stores, (both of which are within 10 miles of a school) strip club, and KKK bookstore that make us feel somewhat embarrassed or reluctant to admit we live in Marysville or Linda.
Though Marysville is rich in history and has many beautiful stories to tell, when it comes to it’s residents, they are less than ready to shout it from their rooftops, that Marysville is their home.
When asked how she would feel if residing in Linda, Jordan Boom of Marysville said, “I would be hesitant to admit it because of its reputation.”
According to www.city-data.com crime index, Marysville’s crime rates over the past two years include: 14 rapes, 24 robberies, 87 assaults, 133 burglaries, 462 larceny counts, and 131 auto thefts.
Though people tend to be more accepting of Marysville than Linda, the two towns are practically the same. Maybe it’s the recycling center on North Beal Road displaying notzi symbols, and flying confederate flags, that turns people off.
If you’re frustrated and tired of the reputations of these twin cities there is something you can do. Talk to the board members and sit in on the city council meetings. The best way to change things is to know about them, and to stay ahead of the game. You’re probably thinking, “What can I do? I’m just one person.” But, just think, for every one person who reads this article and goes to the meeting, that’s on more voice. If 100 people read this, and go to the meeting, that’s 100 voices that will be heard. With enough voices, the board will be forced to listen. Go, and be heard.
