Max defense for the 49ers

November 19, 2012 Bob Barton Leave a Comment

This past Saturday night the Yuba College 49ers played their last football game of the season against Mendocino College with an impressive 24-9 victory. The 49ers closed out the year with a strong victory as the defense played their best game of the 2012 season.

Max Flores spearheaded a defensive onslaught which held Mendocino’s offense to a scoreless game, recording 13 tackles, 12 of them solo efforts. Flores also sacked the Mendocino quarterback 4 times, forced two fumbles and returned an interception 20 yards for a touchdown; opening up a lead for the 49ers which they never relinquished. Flores, a local product from Yuba City, captained a defense that always showed up playing hard with enthusiasm. He is a ferocious, Ray Lewis type, linebacker well suited for Division I College football.

Jeremy Williams avenged last week’s heartbreak loss, in which he was stopped just short of a winning score, by catching a pass in the slot and threading his way through the opposing defense for six points from 19 yards out. Juan Johnson, the 49ers tailback ran the ball well as the offense dominated the time of possession and put the game away. The 49ers won with authority, playing with the heart they displayed the entire year, even though they were no longer in the hunt for the playoffs. Many starters will return for next season and the 49ers should be strong once again.
