Editors,While I applaud you bringing to light the economic exploitation of women employed by the “dancing” segment of the sex industry, there is a background to sex work that needs to be addressed. The majority of women employed in sex work are the victims/survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Because there is so little statistical work on this segment of the population, studies will show anywhere from 30%-90% of sex workers as comming from a background that includes molest. For those of us who have done clinical, phsychiatric, drug abuse treament, and other health work with sex workers it is fairly clear that the number one reason women end up doing sex work is childhood molest. Much more information on this topic can be found at the Poristitution Reasearch website: http://www.prostitutionresearch.com/Thank you for addressing this usually hidden subject.Jeff Ott – StudentYuba College Clearlake Campus
