On Wednesday, Feb 6, Yuba College faculty, administration, staff and students crowded into the college’s Board Room for an informal welcoming reception of the new college president, Dr. Virginia Harrington.
The mood was light and friendly as co-workers mingled over cookies and punch, waiting for a glimpse of the new college president and a chance to talk to her. Soon heads turned toward the door as Dr. Virginia “Nicki” Harrington entered the informal setting, circulating the room to meet and talk with each person attending.
The petite Dr. Harrington, who stands at about 5’2″, cordially greeted faculty, staff and well-wishers, smiling, shaking hands and occasionally answering questions.
When asked about her long-term goals for the college, Dr. Harrington explained that she must completely familiarize herself with all aspects of the college’s needs before being able to assess what goals need to be set. Dr. Harrington did note that Yuba College is currently undergoing changes that she feels will be beneficial, such as a change in staff and a focus on budget problems.
Dr. Harrington came to Yuba College from Blue Mountain Community College in Pendleton, Oregon, where she served as President/CEO since 1997.
From 1993 to 1997 Dr. Harrington served as Vice President of Academic Affairs and VP of Teaching and Learning at Moraine Park Technical College in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin.
