There is a new sporting opportunity that may be flourishing at Yuba College within the next few years. A meeting was held Monday, September 26, 2017 to discuss the option to offer a new sport to Yuba College students.
According to Erick Burns, the Yuba College Athletic Director, “There are no preconceived ideas for a new sport,” though there is a list of sanctioned sports that they will be most likely picking from. These sanctioned sports offer such sports as swimming, water polo, cross country, tennis, etc.
To choose a non sanctioned sport would cost the school more money and take far longer to implement. The college wants to choose a sport where there are plenty of local opponents and lower conference fees.
At this meeting they will also be looking at whether one gender may be under represented athletically. If they find that there is a lack, they will use this new sport to supplement and create more balance. This could be exciting news to those who play a sport not offered at Yuba College. Keep an eye out for an update in the future.
