New software makes college students’ lives easier

May 10, 2004 Staff Leave a Comment

Many Yuba College students know that sinking feeling when an assignment is due and the floppy disk they saved it on won’t work when they get to school. What if instead of going all the way back home you could just log on to the Internet and access your file from school? With Sukhbir Grewal’s new program, DBB tools, you can do just that. With a capacity of up to 100MB, you can store all your important documents on the Internet. DBB Tools is full of lots of nifty features. The e-mail feature gives you not only your own e-mail account, but also allows you to receive e-mail from your existing accounts such as Hotmail or Yahoo, so that instead of checking your e-mail at several different sites you have it all in one spot. You can also create e-mail aliases, so you don’t have to give your real e-mail address when signing up to newsgroups. DBB Tools also features spam control, a calendar and reminders, and an address book. You can also access bookmarks from your existing browser with the program. If you want to start up your own web page to post pictures of the family dog or the infamous snapshots from spring break, DBB Tools lets you do that too. In an interview with The Prospector, Grewal talked about his program, saying “It’s accessible by any computer; it doesn’t care whether its a normal computer or apple computer or Unix machine. You can access it any where.” He continued, “You don’t have to install any program on your computer. You just have to connect to the Internet, and you use it that way.” The program is server-based so that you can store all the files on the Internet. The program can be accessed at the website www.databasebits.com. DBB Tools isn’t just for the college student either. Data Base Bits offers four different web hosting packages: the Starter site, Professional site, Premium site and Enterprise site. The Starter site is the basic package and is perfect for college students. You get the DBB Tools and Support and the 100MB of storage for an affordable $9.95 per year. The other packages are more for advanced users and small to medium sized businesses and prices start from $59.95 per year. They offer many more features than the Starter package. All in all DBB tools is great program for not just college students but for everyone. Easy to use and affordable what more could you ask for?
