Yuba College has received notification from the State of California that there is a major change regarding the number of times a student may take a class.
In the past there were two rules that operated independently of each other and under these rules a student could conceivable take a class seven times. Under the old rules you could withdraw from a class four times or you could have three attempts to pass the class. If you took a math class and failed, you could take it again. Some students would take the math class and withdraw; they would then try the next semester for a passing grade. As stated earlier they could if managed it correctly they could take the class seven times.
Beginning with the summer 2012 session this will no longer hold true. Students are only allowed three attempts to pass their class. So if you are one of these students who have had more than three attempts to pass a class, the spring 2012 semester will be your last chance. It is very important that you sign up for the classes that you have had multiple attempts in passing them; get a tutor and pass those classes. There is no grandfathering under the new rules, it doesn’t matter if you withdraw or you fail a class, you only have three attempts.
If you fail your class after three attempts you could, at this time, take that class through another college district. But do you really want to commute for one class? When taking a class that is difficult for you, stay in touch with your professor – find out what your grade is periodically throughout the semester; sit down and talk to the professor if you are having a difficult time with the work, and go to the tutoring center for assistance.
Remember withdraw or fail you only have three chances at a class.
