The Yuba College baseball team is playing for fun, after a loss against Sacramento City that knocked them out of postseason contention. During the last week of April, the 49ers lost a pair of key games against Sierra College. The first game was a make up game that was called due to darkness, after nine innings of play. Yuba opened the tenth inning by going three up and three down. In the bottom of the tenth the Wolverines scored a run and won the game on a RBI single that lead to an 11-10 victory over the visiting 49ers. In game two Yuba lost a heartbreaker 6-4. Yuba pitcher Kyle Malecha pitched six innings giving up only three hits, but walked a whopping eight batters. “You will never win a game with eight walks. I started out hot then just fell off my rocker,” said Malecha. Kelly Buber continued to hit the ball well going 2-for-3 with a walk, while Charles Madden added two hits with a double in the loss. Yuba would next host rival Sacramento City College in a must win game to stay somewhat in the hunt for the postseason. 49ers pitcher Steve Briggs did what he needed to do, but Yuba fell short 5-4 in a loss that knocked the 49ers out of the postseason for sure. “It was another game we should of won, but two costly errors killed again against these guys,” said A.J. Holland. The next three games for Yuba were rained out. Since all playoff seedings are set these games will not be made up.
