The Yuba College men’s football team, the 49ers, came home this saturday night facing off against the Contra Costa College Comets 10/13/2012. From the outset the Comets were able to run the ball effectively behind their very big offensive line. By establishing the running game early Contra Costa controlled the time of possession, eventually tiring out the Yuba defense.
Quarterback Zach Hutchinson appeared sharp and very capable but had little opportunity to throw the ball as the 49er offense saw few chances throughout the game. Falling behind 28-3 at the half, it was much more difficult for Yuba College to stage a comeback similar to last week’s recovery at Feather River.
The 49ers (2-4) played valiantly in the second half forcing the Comets to work for every yard. Ball control finally paid dividends for Contra Costa as their defense remained fresh and they were able to secure the victory 41-10. The Yuba College special teams played tough, blocking the extra point on the game’s final touchdown by the opposition.
We look forward to next week’s road effort as our beloved 49ers remain in the hunt for a playoff spot at College of the Redwoods.
