Yuba College’s track team shows a promising season with starting the season strong in the 4-by-100 relay and a lot of great individual performances. Coach Todd Anderson felt that their first season opener went really well and that his athletes performed well against the other colleges. He also noted that there are some who still need to get in shape, but for the most part, the team is ready to go.
The relay team of Charles Johnson, Gary Parks, Olrick Johnson and Julius Smith had the best performance for Yuba. They won the race in 44.47 seconds. The relay team of Grant Joyner, Kraemer Winningham, Solomon McKinley and Kirk Joseph placed second with a time of 45.23 seconds.
Sutter native Brian Nelson was second in the 1,500 meters with a time of 4 minutes, 8.95 seconds. Aubrey Ford, straight from Yuba City placed third in the discuss event after throwing for 134 feet and 9 inches. Nathaniel Williamson captured fifth place after hurling the javelin 114-9.
The colleges that attended the Yuba event were American River, Sacramento City, Delta, Santa Rosa and Diablo Valley.
