Yuba College’s basketball program played in doubleheader at home on Saturday, January 19. The Lady 49ers opened the night with a gutsy performance and a victory. Our gals always play tough and never lacked hustle.

The men’s game went into overtime with the 49ers securing the victory. Marin College, ranked 12th in Northern California, almost won on a last second shot in regulation but the field goal was made past the buzzer. The mens have now won seven straight games to stretch their record to a conference leading 13-6. They look poised for another run at a state championship or at the very least the Elite 8.

These Saturday night doubleheader affairs are always a lot of fun and great entertainment for the entire family. Both teams are dedicated to the game of basketball and exhibit a winning drive with spirit.

Dusty, the 49ers’ mascot, keeps the crowd entertained and school spirit at a high level.

When its all said and done, this year’s Yuba College basketball team should be very happy about its record and performance. With eleven freshman and two sophomores, they were a long shot from repeating last season’s performance of being state finalist. The intensity and speed of the game at the college level is much more impressive than high school basketball.

Your college experience is more rewarding by getting involved in school athletics. The games are definitely worthwhile way to spend your Saturday night.
